Hello, I've been reading info here for a couple months and the info here has been great. I hope someone can help with this problem.

I decided to get some cotournix chicks a few weeks ago and they looked pretty ragged when I got them, but started looking better every day. They are 20 days old now and most seem to be doing well.

There has only been one chick Ive had to give special attention to. It was in rough shape when I got it, but seems ok now other than being small, odd shaped, and didn't feather out very well. It's in the bottom left of the picture and the same bird is also pictured in my hand.

However, I found one quail a couple mornings ago that was acting letharfic. I tried to give it some water and it died in my hands 5 minutes after I found it. I had no clues to go on as to what happened.

I just found another one that is acting drunk. I pulled it out and it immediately pooped a white watery & foamy white liquid. When I prop it up, it just rolls from side to side, can't balance. It can sit okay as long as it doesn't try to move.

There are about 150 chicks total in a wire bottom cage. They're all acting normal, but I did find a few spots of runny brown poop tonight.

They eat 28% game bird feeder and get fresh water at least every 12 hours.

If anyone can help, I'd greatly appreciate it. This is my first time raising quail and I don't have much knowledge about these problems.

I would treat for coccidiosis and get some Corid liquid from your feed store or TSC. Give them a drop of the undiluted Corid in their beaks. Then add 10 ml or 2 tsp to each gallon of water as their only water source for 5-7 days. Make sure they take the water, and hopefully they will recover.

Thank you for the replies.

The chick died earlier this afternoon while I was out looking for Corid and electrolytes. I stayed up all night, giving it water and glucose solution. I made an egg paste this morning. But, it wouldn't eat much. Too late spotting the sick chick!

That one didn't make it, but hopefully this will take care of any other potentially sick chicks.

Well, I had about 10 more that got pretty sick after the last post. With intensive care, all but one recovered.

I'm posting because the treatment is done, but I'm still seeing diarrhea under the cages. No birds are acting unusual, but the diarrhea is still there.

I took one bird out to monitor it. I have a couple pictures of what it produced this evening. Poop ranged from good or at least solid to chocolate colored diarrhea just a few minutes ago. The pictures show one quail's work over a 5 hour period.

They are all active and alert. No more lethargic, unbalanced, or apathetic birds. Yet, I still see this diarrhea under the cages. I'd say these pics are a somewhat similar representative of whatwis seen under the cages. But, the stuff under the cages has a better ratio of healthy vs diarrhea mix.

Any ideas about what might be going on?
