i like to give my ducks a daily salad (cucumbers, tomatoes, romaine lettuce, and a cup of mealworms) and i’ve always heard it’s healthy for them.

someone told me it’s not good and they should stick to just normal feed????

I was just curious since the Tomato plant is to be toxic for them. I didn't know if they would just eat on it or stay away naturally given the opportunity to dine on it.

i don’t let them near the plant, i usually cut the tomatoes up inside and then give it to them as a mid-day snack while they are outside

Mine pull the unripe tomatoes off the plant, drop them on the ground and pick more unripe tomatoes off the plant, and then run away laughing (quacking) :idunno :lau I try to keep them away but I'm not always successful. I have the tomatoes right next to the corn and they like to hide among the corn where they think they're invisible

That's to funny ! I have always read and heard that the tomato plants were toxic for them and was curious if anyone has had issues with their ducks wanting to eat the plant, or do they know enough to stay away from them on their own?

@416bigbore I'm not sure. I saw one of them taste a leaf before; he got it in his mouth and did his rapid open-close of his bill, but he let go and didn't rip any off. The ducks are outside and for now have free range of my whole yard so there's free access to all my plants, and so far I've not had any of the ducks get sick. I know tomato leaves have a particular smell to them so I'm thinking they probably have an unpleasant taste and the ducks choose not to eat it. There are so many other things in my yard, and I don't mow half of it so they have plenty of weeds to chew on, so they don't pay a ton of attention to the garden most days. But they sure do like hiding in among the corn stalks!
