I wonder if there are any limits to the number of chickens I can have. I live in an area that is technically unincorporated King county. It's surrounded by Bellevue (chicken limit 6). However, I can't seem to find any specifics. I hope someone knows or knows where I can find out.

Any help is appreciated.

I'd suggest calling your county extension agent, in the phone book under county government. They will know how to find out.

Or you can call your county government and ask them. Just call your county executive, whatever they are called there, and ask.

Good luck!

Hi Farmer Dan,

I'm in Renton, used to be unincorporated. Now I'm in the city. I also couldn't find the regs. Had no problem several years ago when I first got chickens. They were legal then and I'm sure they are now to, just can't find the words.
You might want to ask the same question on the Washingtonians thread in the Where are you forum. Lots of locals there.
You say you are surrounded by Bellevue. Is that the village of Beaux Arts? There might be HOA rules to check as well.

Good luck & hope to see you around

About the only thing I can find in unincorporated King County is the following. "Poultry, chickens, squab, rabbits, hamsters, nutria, and chinchilla are limited to a maximum of one animal per square foot of structure used to house such animals, up
to a maximum of 2,000 square feet." Department of Development and Environmental Services (DDES) Small Animals and Livestock
DDES Customer Information Bulletin #41A

that counts if you have more than 1 acre of land. I only have about 1/4 acre so it doesn't apply in this case. The way it was interpreted is that I could have 3 small animals and they coudl be chickens. However, the area was set to incorporate and the city allows up to 6 chickens in addition to the 3 small animals. The "chicken cop" was nice and allowed me to keep 6 chickens.

It would have been nice to be able to keep 2000 chickens though. ;) Their house would have to be bigger than mine, but heck, it'd be worth it!
