So the whole story starts with a dog who's owners are neglectful. Neighbors down t

he road decided last year to adult turkies and ducks. Then they got their 8th dog that I know of. Dog went on a chain outside and stayed there. The dog was even tied up all winter with 2 feet of snow on the ground.
So anyway the dog is now loose. Been running everywhere. The horses have chased him out of the fields countless times. Saturday I found huge black feathers in the horse field. When I walked back to the house the neighbors turkey hen was in my backyard with the guineas and chickens. The tom was no where to be seen. I guessed that all the feathers I found were his. Later that day he showed up. Neither of them have left and show no signs of going home. So yesterday the dog comes to my house and gets a hold of my rooster. I chased the dog off, rooster is fine but missing all of tail feathers. DH is now on the dog hunt. He came back twice but DH never got a clear shot at him.
My theory is that the dog chased the turkies to my house. The tom is missing half his tail feathers. So now the turkies won't leave. They are sleeping on my picnic table, being aggresive to my chickens and rooster. I don't know what to do about them. I don't care if they stay or go but they are causing a ruckus with all my poultry. We are on day 3 and the neighbors haven't come looking for him. Actually I don't even think they are home since I haven't seen them for a week at least. They are neglectful to their animals so I'm stuck on what to do.

Thoughts?

We have had it with these people before over their dogs. Animal control and the police ha ve been involved. 2 years ago we had problems with their dogs killing chickens. I caught the dogs and animal control picked them up. The dogs never were claimed and were euthanized. I felt terrible even though I did the right thing.

M y concern right now is the turkeys who won't go home. I don't know what to do with them.

Thats a tuff one! If you keep them, the neighbors could be jerks and claim you stole them, if you send them home, they may be mauled to death! Do you want to keep them... If you really want to keep them, I'd keep them out of sight, or hey, you might even try to relocate them... claim you don't know where they came from, no ones been looking for them... Free to Good home!

Call animal control or the police. If the neighbors don't keep the animals on their property then they are effectively yours. Sell them, butcher them, whatever you want... I'd haul the dog to the humane society a county or 2 away and say you found it running loose. Unless it's microchipped they won't find it again.

Um.. Where are you in Northern Ky? I've been dieing to get some started turkeys.. I'll come get them, maybe, if your close enough.

Sounds like my ex neighbor... He must have been staying in Kentucky.. I'll let you know if he shows back up here.

He had a dog that he left tied up too. But all of his chickens adopted us. I called animal control to take the dog and goats that were eating my apple trees. And his donkey that I could hear him cussing and beating on, got loose and is still free ranging somewhere in the forrest across the road from me... Can't say as I blame the poor thing.

Poor Donkey.. Good for him running off!!
