Could anyone comment on the coyote/cat question? I have a couple small dogs and am hesitant to raise hens out of concern they will attract coyotes. The dogs live in the house, but we are outside with them a lot.

I'll comment on the cat/coyote conceren. I would say that yes, it is likely that adding any kind of animal will attract the interest of predators in your area. Even if you have a good sturdy pen, the predators will smell the birds in thier territory and will come by to see if they can get into the pen to eat them. So, yes, adding animals to your property will bring your place more attention from predators.
