For most pure white and brown egg laying chicken breeds that is true. But not for a few specific breeds and this rule has no standing when it comes to mixes.

This isn't usually the case, other than most white and brown layers. Barred Hollands lay white eggs, and sport red earlobes.

True Ameraucanas have red earlobes, and lay blue eggs, as with the white or green-eared, blue laying Cream Legbar.
