Discovered this girl in our woods after arriving back home. No puncture wounds or blood from what I can see, hardly any feather loss. A few feathers about 3 yards away but majority of them are in the photo pictured. Our dog who is normally outside was inside during the potential time of death. Also her booty is inflamed. Unsure if it was a predator attack or she died of some sort of disease? Prolapse? Egg bound? For context, we are in north Alabama. Our chickens free range and we are low on regular food but have plenty of land and woods for them to get what they need. It’s blistering hot today. Could it even be a snake bite? No clue. Want to make sure I don’t need to treat the rest of the flock.

I'm sorry for your loss.

The vent looks slightly prolapsed; she may have been having a hard time expelling and egg or material. It's hard to know if this is the case unless you take a look inside. If you are up to it, open up carcass and take a look at the internals to see if you find anything else going on. You can post photos if you wish and we'll try to help you.
