I have a very lethargic, slow, moving chicken, who is eating well, not drinking, not pooping, her body like winces in pain, and she has to steady her self with her wings. Her tail was down so I assumed egg bound but after soaking her and feeling her abdomen and checking her vent, there is no egg. her vent was pulsating but i can’t find an egg. she has started to eat her eggs about two weeks ago, so we began to give her supplemental calcium and the last day she laid was Sunday, but she ate it. any ideas? she is a frizzle Easter Egger without the frizzle gene

Welcome to BYC. How old is she? Have her eggs ever been shell-less or thin-shelled? Calcium might help if her shells were not hard. Since her tail position is down, I would guess that she has some reproductive disorder. Is her lower belly between her legs enlarged, spongy, or tight like there is fluid inside? Does she seem overweight? Is her crop emptying overnight? What does it feel like now?

She is almost 8 months old. She recently laid a very tiny egg, had yolk and all but no soft shells. Her belly seems fine no liquid, and i even felt her abdomen for an egg in there but there’s nothing. I am not sure if her crop was empty this morning but she has no foul breath or anything like that. Her abdomen feels squishy? but it didn’t feel our of the ordinary. She’s a frizzle easter egger and they’re usually bigger but someone on a different forum mistook her for a meat chicken so it’s possible.

I would check her crop early tomorrow before she eats or drinks. I would try some calcium citrate 600mg with D3 daily for several days. Consider an antibiotic, such as Aqua Mox amoxicillin or enrofloxacin/Baytril for a possible infection. Worming might also be something to consider.
