We lost a hen this weekend. We are not sure what happened with her. She was an almost two year old sex-link Golden Comet. She looked healthy. No pecking or bites noticed. No injuries or missing feathers. No blood or discharge anywhere. Had food and water with no diet changes. Can they just pass away with no reason? Anything I should look out for?

Chickens are living things that can expire at unexpected times.... Just like all other living things. Nobody, or no animal has a lifetime guarantee.
I'm not totally sure, but is there a possibility the Avian flu was the possible cause.? It is spreading northward at current time, carried by migrating waterfowl mostly. I read that the symptoms and death can occur in about 2 days time. Again,,, this is what I have been reading. Also to note,,, not all chickens affected with this virus will die,, but mortality rate is HIGH.
There is not much you can do to prevent this from happening. Total lock-down inside coops is not a reality for most small flock keepers.
I just carry on as always before,,, and hoping the virus does not reach my flock.

WISHING YOU BEST,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, :highfive:
