Hey all! What are some instances where you’ve had an ‘unfriendly’ breed of chicken and they turned out to be sweethearts?

Some people say rhode island reds are mean and unfriendly. My hens are sweethearts, even to each other and have never had a bit of trouble with pecking or bullying. They are super friendly and curious and interactive, also rather vocal which I like. I've heard they can be a bit tough on other more docile breeds, that may be true but I don't have a mixed flock so I can't say. RIR roosters tend to be jerks which is why I don't have one. On the opposite side of that - I don't care what anyone says, no one will ever convince me that white leghorns are nice. I grew up with a lot of them and never met one that was anything other than flighty and unfriendly.

The sweetest chicken I ever had was a white leghorn (sorry DLA). Her name was Lavern and would come running whenever I’d come out. If I sat down she would hop on my lap for neck scratches. She would even sleep on my lap as long as I’d let her.
