Unreachable hen in below 0 temps

I got her but couldn’t grab her friend - who to be fair is bigger and better feathered than she is. But still.

The broody one looks really dehydrated. She didn’t stop drinking for a full 15 minutes after I got her.

Electrolytes would help.
Try to get some food in her.
Not trying to be bossy but if you aren’t hatching chicks, you really should do what you can to break her.
Being broody is a hormonal condition that can be cyclical. A determined broody can kill herself from losing more conditioning each time.

Spray can of keyboard cleaner, air horn, 6 extension cords and a vacuum cleaner, yardstick for poking...put on gloves and crawl...

Just trying to come up with an idea...

With it being NYE I could probably get away with it!

Not bossy - I appreciate the input. We have tried to get her before but she’s stubborn. This is her first time being broody and I underestimated her determination.

I don’t think I have anything with electrolytes but we did bring her inside to observe. She’s eating and drinking. Once she’s back out with the flock I’ll keep an eye on her. I sure don’t want to have to deal with this again The Cochin broody was far more cooperative

Now that you got her out, I'd focus on getting her friend out. Then I would immediately close up the area so she cannot get under and hide again! One of the keys to managing Broody hens is to NOT let them go off to inaccessible areas! Duh, you know that now huh? I hope both the chickens will be ok. Happy New Year too!

My other broody chose a nesting box in summer, which is comfortable, and sensible... I had no idea the cold hard ground in the middle of winter would appeal!

Have blocked things off. Will be taking further action just as soon as it warms up a little!
