Thank you, everyone, for all the comments. It just seems like paying these prices for books is a necessary evil. We already buy used whenever possible. We have pretty much stopped using the on-campus bookstores. A lot of my books even used have been in the $150 range. My school's bookstore is the same way, onthespot, when you sell the books back they want to give you only like $20-$30. It is such a racket!
I do have one class that is using an online text this semester, but they are charging a $49 materials fee in place of the book! I looked online and I could get the book for about the same price, so it is just another way for them to make money and not save the student anything. Anyway, I will stick with buying and selling on Amazon and the few other online sources for now and check into some of the other suggestions as well. I have contemplated buying older editions or international editions too. Every little bit helps!
