My 8 month old hen is unresponsive, pale comb and wont open beak when I try to put liquid on it. Last night was extremely windy and loud with 40mph winds and a low of 35 F. All of my other chickens are fine just not her. I watched her fall off the roost and then just not get back up. She is squinting her eyes slightly and still has some fluid in her crop but not an abnormally large amount. What should I do?

Take her inside or somewhere away from the other chickens. Try to just put water on her beak and see if she drinks it. This is my favorite method to help sick chickens

Thank you. Im trying to save her but shes now breathing very deeply and wont open her beak when I put liquid on it.

Thank you for your help, unfortunately she passed in my arms but she was very loved. I need to keep an eye on the rest of the flock. Hopefully no one else is sick.

No, I was told that was bad to do. plus I live in Southern California so I don't think it ever gets cold enough for that.
Well that was good anyway, at least it wasn't the problem. I'm so sorry you lost her, though. If you've kept the body you could keep it refigerated and send it to your state lab for a necropsy, then you'll know whether it's anything you need to worry about concerning your other chickens.

I'm so sorry. I'm sure she was 💛

Oh no! I'm sorry for your loss. Not that it's a pleasant experience but at least she perished with you holding her - she was not alone. 😢 Hoping the rest of your flock is ok.
