Unfortunately I have no camera, so I'll have to try and describe the issue as best I can.

I had my first hatch today. I've got two chicks. First one was fine, came out within an hour of pipping. The second took much longer and we weren't sure that he would make it, but he seems to be fine now. He's very active and peeping loudly. On his abdomen area he has a bump, with a very thin black string coming out of a small opening(assuming this is the umbilical cord?) The bump is slightly translucent, but I don't see intestines or anything of that nature. It doesn't look like an unretracted yolk sac from the pictures I've seen, but I don't know what else it might possibly be? Any ideas?

Some chicks come out perfectly finished off and others still have little bit not closed over yet. It doesnt sound like there is anything serious to worry about from your description - especially if he is very active. Keep an eye on it though- Its best to make sure they are kept on very clean bedding for the first few days to make sure the area stays dry and clean.

Congrats on your first hatch.
