We have 2 chickens ... age 12 weeks ... and so far they have only been in their run/coop. I would like to let them free range (for short periods of time while we are home) but am unsure about doing so because I'm not sure what our dog would do. Any suggestions/recommendations? Is it unhealthy to only be in their run/coop?

I like free ranging, but understand that when you free range you will eventually lose chickens. Chickens are the favored prey of many animals including dogs. Given enough space in their coop/run, confinement is neither unfair nor unhealthy.

Is it possible to keep your dog inside or on a cable while they're free ranging? If a dog shows any interest in chickens, that interest is whether they make a good chew toy or not. A chicken can live a completely happy life in a coop or run. I personally free range, but usually stay out with them when they are, since I have bears, coyotes, cats, hawks, raccoons. etc surrounding My area lol
