Hi Everyone, I have a question. I have a small mixed flock of chickens. My silkie has been broody. She was sitting on 4 eggs of a friend who didnt have room in her incubator and she abandoned them all. They turned out to be infertile (shipped eggs). Today she was sitting on one of my pair of serama's eggs (they are a roo and hen pair, almost a year old). I candle the eggs when i collect them just to be sure since I only have the serama rooster and a few different types of hens. The egg had no veins, but a dark spot. I did crack it and there looked to be the start of an embryo but the egg had no veins like prior eggs I have candled. Did I candle too early? Is my roo too immature? Was this egg a dud? I have hatched both under my broody hen and in the incubator (as well as quail
) and this was the first time I saw no defined air cell or veins but there was a small clot like tan colored embryo? with dark areas maybe where eyes would have been (about 1/6 the size of a penny). Thank you all for all of your knowledge and any input
. You guys are great
.
