Hello everyone. I bought five chicks about two or three weeks ago. Three were black sex-links.
One of them always had a little different colored markings than the other two but I figured it was normal enough. Now that they're older, the differences are way more pronounced. To
the left is the one in question, to the right a "normal BSL" as far as my group goes. Can anyone confirm if the left chick is male or just a female with a mutation for a little different color plumage?

Thanks!!

Now, interestingly enough. I went on the BYC homepage and i saw this:

Looks familiar...ish to me. I'm wondering if it really is just a mutation or something.

It could be a female. It's probably still too early to tell. There are some really pretty pictures of some black with red-breast black sex-link chicks when you Google them. Seems like this will just be a color variation.

Oh boy I hope so. As ugly as it is, i like him/her plumage and the general attitude. very inquisitive, quiet, and calmer than the other two BSLs I have.

Thanks! I'll just have to wait it out some more.

Is that chick dark with canary yellow? I've never seen that color in a chick.

the hen in that video is a gold laced wyandotte. that may be what your chick is, she just doesn't have the rose comb Wyandottes are supposed to have. Does she have yellow legs?
