This morning when I went out to feed all of my chickens were FINE!!!!
This afternoon, I went out to check on them. The amercauna hen was making a weird sound almost like she was lost. She began snapping at the air with her beak ( like she was chasing a bug), I later determined she was looking for the food dish. She did follow the other hens as they were eating and I watched her eat. It almost appeared as though she was blind. I looked at her eyes...both are clear...no injury or anything.
Later, before I left the coop I ended up having to put her on the roosting pole so she would be off of the ground. I don't think she is sick. I however question her age. I out of 40 hens I recently aquired, She was one of the hens that I kept. I am unsure of her age unfortunately. Is it possible for a hen to go blind? She did feel a bit thin when a picked her up.
Usually my chickens will get out and free range for about an hour or so. They did not today because it rained.
Any thoughts.....
