Hi everyone I have 8 girls about 1 1/2 yr old.
For the last 3 or 4 days I have noticed one of the buff orps (Peaches) has been staying away from everybody else. She stands in the shade with her tail down or just lays there all day. She does go into the roost at nite and I have seen her kind of pick at food I don't know if she is drinking. Today I put out some diluted coconut water for them unsweetened and organic so far no takers they all just look at it. What could this be? I tried to catch her but if she's not feeling well I don't want to chase her around. Tonite when she goes to roost I will pick her up what should I look for? Thanks Caroline

Feel of her crop, and check it again in the morning. Look for mites or lice especially under the vent area. Has she been wormed recently? It might be good to do that. Offer her some scrambled egg and some bread soaked in buttermilk. Pick her up and feel her breast bone to see if she has lost weight.

Thanks for the reply sorry it took me so long to check back.
Well Peaches didn't make it :( I tried to find a vet but everyone says no not enough call for chickens.
Now I just hope everybody else is ok?/ I have one that might be acting the same way but I could just be paranoid now.
I did check Peaches out really well when she was still with us and found nothing . No external symptoms. Nothing strange with her crop no bugs no stuck egg nothing in her poo she slept her last night in the nesting box so I did see the poo??? But she was very thin everywhere. I use VERM-X for worming and DE for dusting and in the coop. Thanks and all other suggestions would be great.

Sorry for your loss. VermX is not a very good wormer. Try some SafeGuard liquid goat wormer (or equine paste) 1/2 ml by mouth and repeat in 10 days. It is safe and reliable. Valbazen is also very good, same dosage.
