Have you searched partridge, or pencilled feather patterns?View attachment 1975402 View attachment 1975406 View attachment 1975399 View attachment 1975400 Hello! I have a year and a half old hen. I bought her when she was just a few days old under the impression that she was a Rhode Island Red. When she was around 5 months old, she was very badly attacked by other chickens in the coop, and because of this she had some unique feathers grow in where they had been plucked. Some had white tips while others were completely white. Now over a year later she has finally come through a complete molt and she has some new patterns that I have never seen before. I've tried to search around and see what they could be or what they would be classified as but I just can't tell. They're primarily located on her back and the black varies in pigmentation. Some are also tipped in black now. Her chest feathers have stayed the same and definitely resemble a Rhode island. She's my mystery girl, any help would be appreciated!
I have but none of them looked exactly like hers, they definitely came close in some regards but they all seem to make a complete loop while hers are open in the center, if that makes sense. I figure though if it's far back in her family line that the pattern would only come through slightly.Have you searched partridge, or pencilled feather patterns?
The patterns vary bird to bird. Here's one of my Red JungleFowl pullets who shows the pattern your bird has.I have but none of them looked exactly like hers, they definitely came close in some regards but they all seem to make a complete loop while hers are open in the center, if that makes sense. Thank you! This post has definitely made me curious about her bloodline. The patterns vary bird to bird. Here's one of my Red JungleFowl pullets who shows the pattern your bird has.View attachment 1975438 It's referred to as partridge, or wildtype pattern depending on the birds' genetic heritage.
You're welcome. She was most likely crossed with a partridge, or pencilled chicken some point in her life.Thank you! This post has definitely made me curious about her bloodline.
