Unusual Orpington color-what is it?

If a BBS silkie has random flecks of reddish brown on their head and neck, does that mean it has partridge?

No. It usully means that it has melanisers missing.
'Partridge' as in wyandotte, Orps, cochins, rocks etc. is a specific combination of genes, with some other breeds it can mean an e+ wild type/duckwing bird. I think 'partridge' in silkies is the former.

Hmm yep the gurus are right, there's a mix of things going on there. Breed them together for a group of chicks and see what you get - won't hurt anything, might help you sort out what's carried. Could produce something pretty or unexpected. That's the fun part.

Patti,
Wrong place to post but I wanted to let you know I got the eggs home and set and when I got a good look at them I realized I have never had such beautiful eggs! I'm so excited and feel good about the possibility that they made it through the heat!! and all the trauma of the last week. Will candle next week-end and let you know how they do. Maybe I'll join a thread of people who set yesterday. Thanks again - this is the most fun I've had in a long time, can't wait to see what I get!

Lois
