We hatched out our first duckling about a week and a half ago. I only have 2 mature ducks at the moment. My others are still ducklings less than 6 weeks old, so I know without a doubt who the parents are. My duck is a Welsh Harlequin and I have a Khaki Campbell drake. With all of the research I've done about crossbreeding them, I was expecting a khaki campbell. This little guy (or girl) looks completely different than what I expected. Does anyone have any experience with breeding the 2 and had a similar outcome?

A lot of domestic animals, when crossbred, revert back to their original wild genetics. Sort of nature's way of overcoming mankind's influence. Could that be what's happened here? I am not proposing that this bird will look identical to a mallard, but perhaps after several generations of cross breeding you might end up with something similar.

And are you basing your research on the website kippenjungle.nl? I love using that calculator!

I've actually never heard of that website, but thank you for the info! I'm definitely gonna check it out. I just did a lot of googling to see what other breeders had to say about the outcome. Genetics are definitely very interesting!
