Hey guys,
As some of you may know, I am in the process of having my coop/run constructed. The coop is 99.9% done, but the run fence isn't up yet. Posts are in the ground, but that's it.
I went out there today to put some straw out back of my shed and I decided to peek into the coop for fun, and you won't believe what I found. 2 wild birds! The coop is sealed up tight, but they still managed to get in there. The only place they could have possibly gotten in was the very peak of the roof where the metal doesn't quite meet the wood. Silver dollar sized opening at most. I still can't believe it, the hole is so tiny, but I guess that must be it. How could they have flown in there? Their wings couldn't have been extended, and there's nothing for them to hold onto and then swing in there or step in or anything. I was flabbergasted to see them in there. I tried so hard to make sure it was everything proof, and there's two birds in there.
Anyway, I opened the door and they flew out after a few minutes, but now my brand new beautiful coop is full of wild bird poop.
I'm assuming this poop is full of all sorts of parasites and diseases, so how the heck do I go about cleaning it up properly so my chickens don't get infested as soon as they go into their new home? My mom suggested Formula 409 and a paper towel or brush, but I'm not sure. I don't want to put anything chemically dangerous in there. Also, I haven't painted the inside of the coop yet, so the raw wood is poop soaked now. Well, it's not all raw. Some is treated, but still.
I just can't believe it still. I'm upset.
Dang birds have an entire forest to live in and they have to come poop up my coop.
It's all over the roosting bar and even splattered on the walls.
Anyway, sorry to rant. How do I clean it?
