Hello All!
I would like to know if anybody can help my family and I. We have 8 Rhode Island Reds. A few days ago my father was going into the coop to feed the ladies and sitting there eating the chicken food was a large rat. My father said the rat did not even move or bother the chickens, they were eating beside it. I am afraid because of all of the diseases they carry, and I do not want them inside the coop!! (For obvious reasons!!!) I was trying to brainstorm but since we are new to the "chicken" world, we are not sure how to go about making sure the rat(s)? do not get into the coop. My father built a small door for them to walk into and out of the coop. This is how they get in and go to bed at night when it gets dark out. I am assuming that the rats are just getting right in through that opening.
Any ideas for how to get rid of them?
Any suggestion would be much appreciated.
Thank you!!
