My Henrietta is looking very lethargic since a few hours ago. She keeps standing in a corner with her eyes closed. I have checked for mites etc.. she is due to lay an egg according her time but might be a rest day. She is an olive egger and has never been this quiet before. I have already lost one leghorn to sudden death and dont want to lose another. I thought I was doing everything right. She is only 7 and a half months old. Please advice!

It sounds to me like she might be eggbound.

Yes. But today she is showing better health than yesterday. Her first poop was runny with some yellow in it that looked like a broken egg yolk. The second poop was khaki brown.from the picture I posted yesterday she looks alot better today. But she is slower stil

Are you feeding a layer feed and placing crushed oyster shell out in a separate container for them to take as needed? Hopefully, she is not going to have further problems laying eggs, but if any shells appear thin or if you see yolk-like material in her droppings, give her a Tums for a couple of days. That would also helpmif she becomes egg bound again to help her pass the egg.

Eggcessive, yes to your question about layer feed and oyster shell. I also add a powdered calcium tablet to one boiled egg which they both share as I had the Leghorn lay a shell less egg a few weeks back. I might not be doing something right. But not sure what.

Have you ever had any who were sneezing in your flock? I once had an outbreak of infectious bronchitis years ago, and that had an effect on egg shells and laying for years, causing a premature end to some laying, as well as reproductive disorders and early deaths. Many of the odd shells that some see are a result of IB.

there is no respiratory issues or bronchitis. I did notice now and then she would open her beak as if she is taking a breath? Or she would wiggle her head. Other than that she was moving but not as bad as yesterday. Also it's only 2 chickens I have and I love them so it cant be that hard right. I'm doing everything I'm suppose to I thought as I'm a fifth generation chicken keeper
