They just got quiet.

Do they develop sleep patterns?

One black sexlink is bald on either side of back... looks natural, no redness... normal?

How old are your chicks? After hatching they do sleep alot - even fall asleep in the middle of eating or standing, or drinking (which is why you have a shallow dish for them with clean marbles in it so they don't drown. How old are they? Male chicks usually feather out slower than females

I just got them today... lady said that they range from 2-5 days. I have only little firecracker that seems to be the youngest she is all over the place.

The brooder I made out of boxes. It is 18 inches wide but 5 ft long. I live in Cali so its nice and warm. One heat lamp but they stay more in the middle of the box. They are in doors until I feel more confident about letting them move to garage. The box is 3ft tall. Heard they fly at a week. Could they get out, I wonder...

To clarify... 3 sleep but 1 doesn't seem to. I have a black lab sleeping outside the box, maybe she can smell he though I don't think so, right? Hmmmm...

The chicks probably won't peep because of the dog... You should always have some kind of lid for your brooder for safety reasons. I would just make sure that the noisy chick isn't on distress. I have 17 chicks in a box in my living room and they twitter like songbirds every once in awhile, but none of them are incessantly cheepy... Quiet more often than not

I have also heard/read somewhere that chickens can't smell very well at all...never been a chicken so I don't know for sure

She was cold... took me a little while but I fixed it! I am the only one awake now. Researching chicken coops. Really want a walk in one. Any advice there?

Not sure about a "sleep pattern" but I have 33 birds (25 Cornish cross, 5 EE, and 3 turkey's) all in the dining room ans only small peeps now & then. They are 7 days old as of today! Using a modified dog cage, it's big enough for a retriever if that gives an idea how big it is. Modified it by placing card board on the inside so the babies do go through the cracks :) I am amazed on how fast the feathers are developing on the wings! won't be long before I can moves them to the jr hut outside. I never thought I would be so addicted to chickens!
