Hi!
Thought that I would share my journey in backyard chickens. My friend has a farm about an hour away, and this is where my adventure began. I rescued many girls to put out on the farm to eat the bugs and retire. Well, they are just too far away for me. My friend takes absolutely great care of them, so I had to leave them at their new home.

Well, I missed my girls, so I adopted four baby gsl and 2 easter egger chicks. After 6 weeks in my craft room, I had to build them a home. Unfortunately during this time I had surgery, so finances were a bit tight. I started looking around for building materials. I came across two desks, some pallets, some laminate flooring, screens, windows, old fencing, screws, paint and tarps. I then came across several fireplace screens, welded wire, vents, a greenhouse frame, construction signs and fencing.
Well, I began with one desk, some pallets, a wooden doll house for 18 inch dolls, a 2 x 2 Table and some old cupboard doors. It made a cute little 4 x 6 raised coop. It was perfect for the six little pullets.

I made the run using the existing chain link and wood fencing. I added fireplace screens under the coop. I found some posts at a building site and a door for the run. I was given some chicken wire so used it to reinforce the chain link and cover the run. I added a tarp for some shade.

I added a patio made from the dog kennel and covered it with rubber floor stuff from our camping stuff. I put plastic over the fence and a sun shade to block the wind. I added a doir off the patio that goes into the main floor. They have a stool up to the roosts and third floor.

I enclosed the bottom room with boards, and covered the cement with rolled plastic vapor barrier. I left the fireplace screen for access into the downstairs. I will put their feed and heated water there in the winter.
