Hello all. I posted awhile back regarding the sex/breed of my chickens. They look somewhat similar, but came from three very distinct eggs.

All born within a couple hours of each other on Easter- so they are about 2 weeks old.

I was wondering if anyone have a guess on the sex or breed, because none of it is textbook (IMO).

Suki also has some random black spots on her (him?)

Roo was named roo because I had a feeling it was a 'he' (and 'Roo' was the top name the kids wanted to name one of the chicks). The wings and tail were so much shorter to start with, and the feather pattern (I know not reliable) was different.

Thanks guys!

Roo looks like a Mediterranean build body, so white leghorn or a derivative of those, possibly, especially if the shell pic is the same order they are listed in the next pic)

Suki is looking the most roo-like with the pinking comb. The feathered feet....cochin, French white marans (due to the chocolate shell, do white Marans even exist?) Wait...black spots? French Splash Marans which do exist or Splash Cochin, but with the tail, the Marans is more likely

Sumi, green shell, muffs....an Easter Egger of some sort. There's so many hatchery specific designer names...

The white one hatched first, the other two I stepped away and they were all crawling all over, so not sure which one was which.

These came from a woman on Etsy- and I figured 'why not?'. Her store has since been shut down, lol. What she said they would be- they are obviously not, haha!

Mystery chicks can be lots of fun!

Suki definitely fits that bill! I didnt even know that breed (but then again I dont know much). But yes- I think that is what we might be looking at for sure. Im praying not a roo.... He/She is my favorite. :(

The redder comb is potentially roo. However, no growth, no wattles is good.
Sorry to bug you

So I have been doing some research, and think without a shadow of a doubt Suki is a French Splash Marans. Everything fits to a T. Especially when I look back at what the woman said 'the chocolate egg is a marans'... So while I expected a dark colored chick, this furry legged cuddle bug arrived. She is so sweet, she wants nothing but to plop down on my lap and go completely flat and fall asleep or preen herself. Or jump around like a maniac on furniture.

Any-who.... When I was looking up images, looks like French Splash Marans Hens have wattles and fairly large combs.

So in your opinion, when does the guessing game end?
When she lays an egg? lol. Do I wait for a crow (not sure which comes first, the crow or the egg).

All the images of hens look like this example:

Because the roosters look like this crazy thing:

Agreed on the cockerel. Early pink with comb and wattles growth usually means roo. 9-12 week moults also starts popping the long skinny pointy hackle and saddle feathers that create the rooster cascade: around the neck and just in front of the tail. The splash roo pic shows those really well.

My guess is they're probably all mixes. Possibly with the same father, most likely a white leghorn. Out of curiosity, what did the seller claim they were?

White leghorn are dominant white, which with only one copy will give you mostly white birds with some (usually) black spots or flecks. Which could explain why all the chicks are more or less the same color.

This is my hen Lady Amalthea who has one copy of dominant white.

Splash is a highly variable color. It can range from almost completely white with just a few blue flecks to mostly blue with white spots (looks like blue mottled) and is not related to gender at all.
