I wouldn't put her in cool water but maybe wipe her off a little with a cool rag, under the wings and maybe the top of her head, is it cool in your house? Maybe drip water on her beak as well hope that helps. Good Luck

Dribble water down the side of her beak, and put some vitamins and electrolytes in her water. Maybe bring her in the house until she cools down a bit?

Thanks guys. I don't have any vitamins, I have kickin chicken and some fruit, do you think if I squeeze some orange juice out of a orange into her water, she did take s few drips when I forced her to. I have her in the house and it's 75 in here but she now seems like she is shivering a little. I have her in a towl in my arms now....Thanks again Kristen

Orange juice is citrus, Which people say not to give it to chickens yet no one can say "Why not to".. So sometimes i wonder if it is just a myth. But either way i would go with some apple juice or something like that. putting her in cold (cool, but cool to us could be cold to her) water directly out of the heat could have possibly been the cause to make her shiver but she should come along fine, Give her some water, a syringe works well. just gently squeeze on the side of her mouth and give her a little.. Then i would think give her time.

And she should be up and walking soon, unless something else is wrong?

Others will probably come along with better advice

This is why I keep gatorade and pedialyte around - because this kind of thing happens, but sometimes I don't unfortunately. More often I try to because of accidents.

Try to get electrolytes in her via beak dribbling. Gatorade will definitely do the job. When we evacuated and had to take my parrots in the car, they all got horribly overheated (the great horrible hurricane evacuation in the news from Houston a few years ago). I had fruit and gatorade. As soon as we were forced back home, they all got gatorade. I only lost one, and trust me - they were bad enough to lose them all.

Remember that heat problems don't just manifest the first day. If she's had organ problems, it'll continue for a couple of days. So give her the electrolytes for a few days.

As for orange juice - it's ok, but in moderation. Better to give pieces of fresh orange. It actually can help slightly acidify their gut. You don't give just the juice or lots of oranges because of acidity - it's just too much.

Try a little karo syrup in water, or a tiny bit of organic apple cider vinegar (organic only) if you have some. (1 teaspoon per half gallon). It has some electrolytes in it, tho not enough.

Hope this helps.

By the way, next time just wet her combes, wattles, rather than cooling her entirely. Poor baby

Thank you guys for all the help again!!! It's nice to know when you need suggestions you can come on the BYC
