Hello. We made our incubator ( THANK YOU ALL WHO HELPED!!) and the temps and humidity have been great, got a lil too hot a couple times. We have been in lockdown since Sunday afternoon. Yesterday we heard some peeping from the lil chicks and today we hear even more. Our humidity has been holding at 65% , knock on wood, since the beginning of lockdown. How long should it be before they start to chip away at their shells? How long is too long to wait? Should there be assistance after a certain point? I am not going to open it or anything, I am just curious at this point and a little concerned. This is our first time hatching and we are over the rainbow excited!!!

Thank you all...............Michelle

If today is day 21, give them 48 hours. Leave the bator closed if the humidity is so good; opening and closing the bator will screw that up.

BTW, congrats!!

Oh how I hope it all goes well!

I had a chick hatch 3 days early - she (hope it's a she) was sitting in the turner just waiting to be rescued.
The other eggs were on time - 3 days later. I guess you just can't fool Mother Nature.
I should think that a chick vigorous enough to peep is vigorous enough to pip ... when she is good and ready.
GOOD LUCK with your hatch! They are always exciting.

Ok Thank you! I am very impatiently waiting lol. One has pipped and we can see it's beak but right now it's taking a break

YEA !!!!
