Update: HAPPY ENDING! - Friday 13th - One dead, one injured.

Chicken Matthews seems to have made a full recovery and is now a full "fledged"

member of the flock again. She spent last night outside, has been outside all day, and is outside tonight. In fact, I'm out here right now with a fire in the fire pit, a couple of Miller Lites, and 8-Track Saturday Night on the radio keeping them company.

I've only noticed a few hardships for her. She can get on two roosts with the rest of the gang, but cannot get on the roost that is highest. She also seems to have a bit of trouble getting herself back up when she falls down.

As for pecking, if anyone is doing it, she is. I have a feeling she might have been pretty high up on the pecking order before she got attacked, because she really bosses the others around.

One odd thing - despite all the time spent with me, she is the most skittish now. It is very difficult for me to catch her and give her her antibiotic.

Thanks for everyone's advice for and support of Chicken Matthews.

I'd like to think that whenever folks use this little icon,

, they think of her, because this is a perfect representation of her personality and resiliance. If we ever get a digital camera, I'll post pictures. (And you really can't tell that she's missing a wing!) And here's a Miller Lite toast to her sister who died so mysteriously on that Friday the 13th.

That's awesome wolf! The balance thing is tricky, but she should have it down in a couple of weeks. It's (I assume) like taking the training wheels off your bike when you're little. You have to learn how to ride without the extra support, just like she needs to learn to walk around with her weight shifted in a new way. Also, my Kitty Cat is very skittish as well. She has only very recently (last month or so) started to let me get near her to pet her. Her accident happened when she was about 3 months old and she'll be a year old in September. It will take time.

Please do get a camera soon! I'd love to see the frisky little chicken (and the other babies too).
