Okay, so I just came home from church today to find that I have 2 chickens I didn't have before.
The renter who lives in the front of our house said a guy in coveralls came by and asked if we were the "house with the chickens." We live in the city, so it's pretty unusual, I guess... but the renter said yeah, and was going to show him the chickens (that's usually what people come by for...) But no - he said he found two in his yard, and they must be ours. Well, the renter wouldn't know any better, so he thanked him and put them in the empty run (good, smart renter!) so we could decide where to put them when we came home.
Anyway, behold - Isabella and Beatrice!
(couldn't help it. had to name them instantly.)
Isabella (the orange one) has a normal-looking straight comb until the top, where it seems to split. Beatrice is blue with a lovely blonde face and what looks like it might be a pea comb or rose comb... it certainly is broad and flat.
What are they!!?? I'm really fond of them
UPDATE:
The proper owner found us last night, came to collect the babies, and saw our setup. Turns out they were an impulse buy 2 weeks ago, and he really had no idea what he was getting into. He said he wanted us to keep them. Seemed sad, but was really impressed by our many tractors and enclosures, and the fancy garage coop I'm building. Said he had nothing like that at home. Oh, and their real names were "kelly" and "mary".
And they're ours now!
