Thread WAS called: Anybody Want a Free Beautiful (BAD!) Drake in SoMD?

I have this 9 month old drake, a mutt of a Silver Appleyard/Khaki Campbell cross, who is tearing up one of my ducks in particular. A muscovy female that he's apparently taken a shine to. I pen him up separately because the first time he did this they were in the pen and I try to keep him away from her, but every time he gets near her jumps on her and now he's messed her head up. Torn some of her carunkling and her eye lid is swollen. She looks pitiful and I have the vet coming out tomorrow just to take a look. I'm SO MAD!!

I hatched him myself from some of Duckkeepers eggs and I do really like him. He's beautiful, and he's great with me, but he's a jerk to the ducks and would probably be better off in a home with a few pet drakes or something.. None of my other drakes act so mean like this and if I can't rehome him he's going on my dinner table in a matter of days. (maybe) lol I'd love to keep him, I mean I love all my ducks, but he just can't behave with the girls and I feel bad for them.

I'm in Southern Maryland and I can't deliver him, but if someone wants him and can come pick him up they can have him! I'm THAT sick of it.

In the mean time.... does anyone know something I can do to stop him or should I just keep him penned up all the time when the other ducks are out? And why is he picking on JUST this particular muscovy girl? Will it stop eventually? Is is just because he wants to breed? Why he's so mean about it? As of now he's GROUNDED and not coming out.

Sorry you're having a rough time with him.

I'd keep him separated unless there are a few he does get along with that you could pen him up with for company. Just seems some drakes/roos are ornery that way. Hope someone who's dealt with this before has something you can try.

UPDATE...I'm still dealing with my menace drake because no one one wants him and I cant bare the thought of the pot ... not yet.

BUT!!!!! Do you now what I'm doing??? UGH!!!! It's so embarrassing to tell y'all this.... I'm sitting outside every day with my laptop and my phone, so I can get my work done AND keep the menace drake under control without having to put him in the pot or keep him penned up. (because he is soooooo pathetic when I keep him penned up and the other ducks are out)

I HAVE TURNED INTO THE CRAZY DUCK LADY!!!!!!

So I spend half the time working and the other half chasing his dumb butt away from the girls and other younger ducks. Now don't get me wrong, I'm glad I work from home and some people might think working outside is nice, but THIS duck chasing crap is quickly becoming OLD. It's not constant, so that's good. I do get my work done eventually. He hangs with the 2 Muscovies he was raised with and they kind of do their own thing, but I can hear him coming with his weird 1/2 quack thing he does almost constantly, from all the way around the other side of the house and I automatically jump up and assume the duck fighting position. I only have to run at him and he backs off and leaves them alone and goes the other way.... but I'm tellin' ya...Duck soup is on our future dinner menu. I just know it.

He is a menace and I'm starting to think he's always gonna be.

I have the same problem with this lad, but he is after a male bahama pintail all the time.
Who he has done damage to, he has a limp now.
I have him in my sick ward for now.

Want to give this lad away, no one wants him.
Taking him to give away at poultry fair next week.
Hope he would get a good home.
Despite what he has done. I wouldnt have the heart to put him down.

Awwww. What kind of old boy is that?

I just honestly don't know what to do with mine. I can't let him tear up my other ducks and mess them up, I feel bad for him if I keep him penned because he, pathetically, never shuts up and wants to be with his buddies, and I don't have the heart to put this one in the pot. So until I figure out what to do with him... I guess I'm working outside.

Sorry that you are having such a hard time. We had a similar situation last spring and I put 3 drakes on Craigs List (free to a good home) and I had no trouble getting rid of them (and I was picky!).

Hahaha.. I'd make sure to delete any pics of that off the camera.

He's been doing pretty good the last couple days. I haven't had to spend all my time outside. I think he just wants some girlfriends that aren't muscovy. The muscovy girls shun him. I keep telling him to be patient. I'm growing him some in the brooder now and if he learns to behave, he'll be safe from the pot and surrounded by a harem.
