Am I doing all I can? This is a black Australorp chick hatched 4/11, shipped from MMH, arrived in CT yesterday. They are all active and doing what they should except this one. I have giving her sugar water from the end of a syringe and can see her swallowing. I got her to eat a little plain yogurt and starter from a toothpick and she was actually nibbling at it. She didn't take much in though. Her bottom is clean. She will drink from the waterer but I have yet to see her eat on her own. Is there anything else I can be doing her to give her a chance? I did a search but didn't seem to come up with much. Thanks!

Not to be too negative, but I had one that did the same thing. I tried what you are doing, but this chick just never ate much, and gradually ate less. She died on day 3, just got sleepier each day. Sorry. Good luck.

I myself have a sick chicky right now...she actually was unable to feed herself and with the help of another here on this forum she is now eating. Go to a local petshop and purchase some hand feeding formula for birds. The one I have been feeding is made by Kaytee and is called exact hand feeding formula. My chicky seems to really love this stuff. It is really inexpensive too. Then go to your local store and by some pediatric electrolye's to mix the formula with. I recommend getting the electrolye that is unflavored. Then mix the 2 together to make a creamy smooth mix that you are able to put in your hand and let her nibble from. By adding the electrolyte to the food it will help her from becoming dehydrated. Dehydration will most likely will be the cause of her dying. Anyways this has been working for me and I hope it will help you. Good luck!

Thanks, if she makes it through the night I will do that. Sorry you lost yours Raindrop.

She didn't make through the night. Just too weak. I emailed the woman I ordered with and she lost one of her red stars too. She pointed out that the shipping label says they hatched Friday and they didn't get to CT until Monday. That's a long time to be without food and water.
