This little one is 2 1/2 weeks old and has developed an issue with "her" butt. We are new to turkeys but have had chickens for several years. Any ideas???? We have separated "her" because the others are picking at it. If you happen to recognize a gender that would be great, but not necessary, we're just concerned about "her" condition.

Thanks

It kind of looks to me like a prolapse. Or it may be just because the other poults are pecking at it. I hope she is doing ok!

Since you've had chickens does it look as if she has "pastybutt?" If so, I would give her yogurt. Hard to tell by this picture but like mallory2013 mentioned, polapse. I too am new to turkeys. I didn't get my turkeys as babies, they were over 6 months when I got my hens and 2 yrs old when I got my tom. I did have a day old chick that had prolapse. I had to use a Q-tip in order to push her inerds back in. It took a little finese but it worked and the chick was fine. You may have to push the inerds back in if it's prolapse.

Hopefully someone with more turkey experience will come along and help. You can also post this in the Turkey section. Good luck.

So I did some research on prolapse and I don't think that's it, at least not yet. There is no bulbous red material coming out of the vent. It does look like the vent is swollen though. She is pooping okay - it's not hard or watery but she's not eating or drinking much. We put a warm compress on the area and then bag balm around it because it seems to be drying out, which I don't think she liked very much because then she kept picking at it. She is also separated from the rest so they won't pick at it. We thought at first it was pasty butt but after closer examination decided it wasn't. There wasn't any dried fecal matter around the area at all.

UPDATE!!!!! HELP PLEASE!!!!

She is not clogged up but she is not passing stool. She is very swollen and cheeps when you rub the area. I've tried soaking the area in a warm bath. Any other ideas????

Thanks

Poor baby! My guess is that the area around the vent may have gotten infected, thus making it difficult for the poor poult to pass stool. I'd try getting the baby on some antibiotics right away. Go to your local feed store and ask what antibiotics they would recommend for this situation. Hoping it's not too late!

Sorry to hear about your turkey. I just found this post. I'm not sure what could be wrong with her. Did you try posting in the Turkey section? That is where all of the turkey experts are. Sorry but I have never experienced anything like that with my poults.

I also have this posted in the turkey section but am getting no response there so I tried here.
