Well, it is broody season around here, and thus, we have chicks!! Just wanted to post pics of the ones that we have now, but I have 3 more broodies due in a little more that a week, I think. Anyway, her is our clans so far...

Eunice, momma of three clutches (this being her third)

So, she hatched 7 chicks, total. 2 Buff Orpingtons:

2 Wyandotte X BO's:

Notice the ticking on the wings:

And the second with ticking on it's neck...

Then 2 Barred Rock X BO's... This would form a sex-link (as the father is the BO) so these are little pullets:

And a cute little white one. The only chicken that I have that could produce a white chick is a SLW and at the time, I had some Leghorns. My question is which would he be from? The father is a BO. So he would have to come from the SLW in order to have any black, right? Here are his pics:

His Tail:

His wing:

And a close up on his neck:

And then we move onto Winnies group:

Winnie, also momma to 7 chicks (but one is adopted). This is her second clutch.

Her 2 BO Chicks:

Her 2 Wyandotte X BO's... See the light ticking on them? They were hatched with the "chipmunk" coloring... This first one, I believe to be a cockeral.

Notice the BLUE wattles on that second chick!

Then there is 2 BR X BO... A pullet:

Check out the awesome feathers:

And a cockeral. Sorry for the bad pic, he is VERY active!

And another cockeral that she adopted. I saw an ad from somebody right near me that hatched a lone chick and wanted to give it away. I had compassion and took it in, and realized after that it was a sexlink, and a cockeral. But, he is beautiful, so I will raise him to sell (I only keep BO roos). Here he is:

LOVE THE COLORS!

That is all for now, but I will post more when the other chicks hatch!

Thanks! My ultimate goal is to not have to buy chicks from the feed store every year. Only every few years will I have to (to get fresh blood in the genes). I am well on my way to having enough chicks for this year, if not, I will buy local, or maybe order if nobody has chicks.

They are beautiful!

You can order hatching eggs also, cheaper then ordering shipped chicks.

There's a farm store near by us that sells just about every breed at some point during the year. His prices are fairly low as well. Although, having hybrid chickens is nice. I heard they can be awesome layers with fewer health issues.

Thank you everybody! I am loving them up! They are wayyyyy more fun when the momma's raise them and I don't have extra mess to clean up!

I thought about hatching eggs, but I need to get good with my incubator first. I have done 2 hatches with it so far, first one with my chickens, got 7 out of 21 eggs to hatch. Then the second time was a friends eggs and only got 2 out of 36 to hatch (I think that mess up was the way the eggs were handled coupled with low fertility). And both chicks died. Any way, I am sure that I can find some chicks local, should I need them... I hope not to though!!
