Update on Bullied, Beaten, Starved and Frozen

For everyone that gave me advice about my poor starved and frozen silkie: Thanks for all the help!
Amazingly enough, she is still here! It's been 2 weeks since I brought her home. She is pecking up feed like a normal chicken. She still gets her bowl of "GLOP" (mixture of supplements, vitamins and veggies pureed in the blender) but all I have to do is put the bowl in and she gobbles it up. She's moving around much better, although she still staggers and her head drops when she sleeps. Limberneck or brain damage? No clue, but she will respond when I talk to her and even chirp at me when it's time to eat. She doesn't seem to be in any pain and will even snap a wing when my cats come over to check her out. So I am beginning to really have a bit of hope she will be ok.

Yup. I work at a riding stable and the chickens just run loose all over the place except for some of the fancy ones that we haven't had very long. They are kept in the pigeon coop (which is a meshed in stall in the barn, about 10x20 ft.
It keeps them safe from predators, but they can't get too far away from the more agressive ones, which is what happened to the silkie) The outside chickens have a shed that has roosts and nest boxes in it, but they are free to come and go when and where they want. The majority of them sleep there but there are a couple of favorite trees here and there. There are 4 dogs on the place that keep the foxes and such from bothering them.
I have decided to get a batch of baby chicks for my house soon. I have to build a coop and pen first. I'm planning to get 25 to start with and have all the eggs I need.I haven't yet decided what kind I want. I was looking at some of the surprise mix and match boxes some of the hatcheries offer. Then later get a couple of fancy ones just for fun.
Anybody have any suggestions?

Hey! I just had a silkie recover from the crookneck. dhlunicorn has a listing that explains how to treat it. Frosty looks totally better. I got the Vitamin E with selenium(50 micrograms) and vitamin B liquid. Without the selenium he couldn't absorb the vitamin E he needed. It really worked for Frosty. Still giving him the vitamins in the water, but he is back in with the other chicks. My computer refuses to edit or copy anything now. If you see the info on "poor little chick with constant head shakes - can anyone help? " listed last yesterday 1-15 under same emergencies post. That particular info is in responce #13. Sorry to list it that way, but that info (whole post was so helpful). Hope it helps you also.

I remember your post, glad you wrote an update and sounds like your new pet may be getting better--course she needs some chicken company now so get that coop built, lol!!
