So here is a little update on my two Cornish X ladies, George and Greta.
They are 8.5 months old, and doing well.
They are still laying beautiful, yummy eggs for me, Greta often gives me a HUGE double yolker. Each yolk is the same size as a regular egg.
Both Greta and George's eggs have very large, rich dark yellow yolks that taste fabulous.
George lays about once every three days, Greta about every other day. George makes up for less eggs by making them absolutely beautiful, brown with dark speckles. Greta's eggs are a creamy light brown.

The Princess, Miss Greta. She is cheeky and naughty, you can see it in her eyes. She's always on the go. When she's vocal she sounds like this : "Bu bu bu bu bu bu bu bu bu bu bu bu BAAAk!!!!!!!"
Here is The George, my sweetheart. She has a sweet gentle nature and likes to sit beside me while I pet her back. When she is vocal she sounds like a rusty chalkboard. "BRAAAA BRAAAA BRAAAA BRAAAA!!!"

George is so cute she was walking around with a leaf in her beak.
I loves them lots.
I've got new chicks coming next friday, White Rocks, (were supposed to be barred, but apparently there weren't enough eggs so we had to go with white), and when the chicks get old enough I'm going to integrate a couple of girls to live with George and Greta in their special run, so that if one of them has an untimely death the other will not be lonely. Then when they both pass the WR girls will go to the big coop and run with everyone else.
I wish I had been able to get the chicks sooner, but the rocks are only available in July.
They don't have a good variety of birds, either hybrid layers, rocks, or RIRs. The heritage breeds are just too darn expensive, and minimum shipping is 25 chicks.
Anyway, I just hope that George and Greta make it until the new chicks are old enough. They are doing wonderfully right now, but I am aware that even despite my best efforts they can still die suddenly. Siiiiigh. I just can't bear the thought of one of them being lonely.
