update on page 2 * went to ENT yesterday, have a question :-)

I disagree with you on the last part - I was asleep for my surgery and didn't know a thing, I could NEVER watch or assist a surgery. You're stronger than I am.

I'm glad you set the surgery date. If you get nervous as the date comes close, do another post. If you're just getting the septoplasty, I think your recovery won't be too bad. You have lots of people out here pulling for you!

Well I guess it is if you like that kind of thing! lol! Eye surgery there is not alot of blood. So I am not talking about some strange association with blood or some endepth surgery like heart, etc! lol! I don't know if I could handle that type! But I did assist the Opthamologist with eye surgeries and lasers on the eyes.

Thanks for everyone giving some feed back I really appreciate it and for pulling for me. Hopefully it goes as he says just the Septoplasty, which I guess it should being nothing goes wrong before then! He says alot of people just have two days of discomfort and take pain pills for just two days! I am hoping that is what I experience.

Good luck on your surgery tomorrow.

I am going to an ENT tomorrow myself. My ear has been creaking for months. I also have a hard time breathing through my right nostril, and snore a lot now for a few years. I will be mentioning these things too. I think my R nostril is narrower than my left, I always push on my nose to open that side up. I get tired a lot and rarely feel rested, wake up way too much all night.
Please let us know how it all goes!
I'm going to have to research that because I have no idea what a septoplasty is

ibpboo - It sounds like you have a deviated septum. As written in this thread, the surgery will make you feel much better. The snoring myself awake, and breathing through my mouth were miserable.

hi everyone, i should have posted to this along time ago. it is now almost oct! sorry! i have to give you a update. my surgery was sch. for like july 23rd. anyway, we went camping the second week of july and in north arkansas in the mountains, hiking, etc. at times i thought on some of those hikes my heart was going to pound out of my chest and catching my breath, i thought i can't be this out of shape! i am 38 have two toddlers to chase after, come on! while gone i never coughed but once. got home and after about a week was thinking man, i am breathing so good!!! what is the deal? i told my husband i was thinking about canceling my surgery i was breathing so good. so i did that. but also made a appt. for a allergist/asthma doctor. when my appt. got here i was tested and told i was allergic to all grasses and some other stuff. i told the doctor about my experience with my vacation. (i have a sister and a niece and a nephew with asthma) they had me blow into this thing and see if i could knock down these houses. well i did not do to great. then they gave me this inhaler and waited 10 minutes and i had to try to blow down the houses again. i did so much better! so the doctor said it was likely i had asthma and that i had nasal allergies. he saw that i did have a deviated septum but said he sees alot of those and not everyone has surgery, that he maybe able to help me with just medication. so i was given two inhalers, nasal allergy nose spray and a spacer to use with my inhaler. i was to follow his instructions and come back in 5 weeks. i did as i was told and then gustav hit before my appt. one of my inhalers were a rescue inhaler and he gave me instructions on how and when to use it. well thank God i had the rescue inhaler because i could not breathe after gustav hit, i dont know what it blew in. but i had tightness in my chest and coughing. i used my rescue inhaler and relief was within minutes!!! so i went to my appt. and they said with that kind of reaction i had asthma for sure! i am so glad i can breathe better, sleep better and wake up refreshed and i can stay on my eliptical and exercise for 30 minutes at one time!!! before it was 15 min. and i was so winded but thought it was being out of shape.
so long story short i have asthma and did not have the surgery. that was a savings money wise because i would have had to pay my 20% after my insurance and what a blessing to how everything worked out!! if we had not gone on the trip how was i to know that being in a different enviroment and climate would help me and help me realize that i did not need the septoplasty! my husband joked about moving since i could breathe so better too!!

Aww! thanks!! Weren't you going to the ent too or was that someone else on this thread?

i am so glad to be breathing better and to find out what was wrong. so many times i would tell my family doctor or pregnant doctor (can't spell obst.?!) about having a hard time breathing and feeling like my throat was closing off and not feeling rested. they always said anxiety and my seratonon (sp) was off because of lack of sleep and not getting into that r.e.m. sleep. they wanted to put me on anti depressents for it!!! i did not want to pop a pill, but gave in one time and man i just laid around and did not want to do anything. i told the dr. that was not for me and i wanted off of them. then i got sent to a thyroid dr. he said my thyroid was off but not enough to put on medicine because once i got on it i could not get off of it. and he said if i still had the closing off feeling in my throat he wanted to order a colonoscopy!
i have found out that reflux can make asthma worse and that exercising helps your asthma. thank God i found a good dr. he also has a internal medicine degree so i feel like i am in the best hands, sort of speak!

I am so glad you found a good dr., too. And I really hope that you can keep your symptoms under control now.
I did go to the ENT. I do have a slight deviated septum, but the dr didn't say too much about it. I told him about the snoring and he described the surgery for that and also said it was the worse sore throat ever for over a week, like 100 times worse than the worst sore throat you ever had. Didn't sound like something I want to do. And then the pain in my ear, well he said to go to the dentist. But, I haven't done that yet. I already know that I have some bone loss in the molar teeth area, not sure what to call it. When you get your teeth checked, and they read off the number for how deep the pockets are between your teeth, well a couple of them are 6's, not good. So, I make sure I floss and try to keep food out of between my teeth, that helps with the tooth pain. And I guess I will just keep making funny faces and stuff for awhile to keep the breathing free, or I can push on my nose a little to move it over for a bit to get better airflow, and sometimes I wear those nasal strip things, but mostly, I just keep adjusting my nose.

I know alot of people put on here they had good luck with the surgery but the astham doctor said he had alot of patients after awhile that said that it stopped working or did not help at all. So I feel blessed that I had something else that I think was causing 95% of my problem!

Best of luck with what your dealing with. I have tried those strips, could not live without them while pregnant! they have a spray have you tried it? wonder if that might help you?
