UPDATE on sick hen need advise PLEASE!!

My RIR gal is still alive to date. I did yet another "bath" on the butt and soaked her longer to clean it up. My husband was holding her and claimed he saw white things moving on her head...lice...mites...I do not know. She is "drying" right now but want to treat for mites and lice. What do you use??? I have Sevin dust here and have read on numerous posts that is what people use. Since she is in a dog crate do I sprinkle on the wood chips or do I actually apply it to her. Or is there something else that works that you would recommend. I am about 30 miles out from the nearest Tractor Supply so I will need to move soon. She still is not eating well but with the head shake I would be dizzy too. Any help would be appreciated.

I did give her safeguard treating for any possible worms via bread ...she did eat the bread.

Went to pick up ivermectin and poultry dusting powder. Going ahead and dust her for I haven't seen any responses regarding my post.

"white things" could be maggots. you must clean the area thoroughly with an antibiotic solution and use tweezers to remove any maggots and pests that you see. i use catron spray for flystrike (maggot infestation) - it's a wound spray so ok to use on broken skin: http://www.jefferspet.com/catron-iv/camid/liv/cp/A9-CB/

time is of the essence, so try to remove as many pests as you can before they get worse.

I would probably use the sevin dust (carboryl) but poultry dust is probably the same thing. Easiest way to treat is to put it in a plastic trash bag and put the chicken in up to the neck and powder her holding the neck so she doesn't get it in her eyes and nose.

Ok...my gal is dusted as good as I could do....she is having a fit pecking herself all over. Do not know if the critters are reacting to the dusting thus my hen can feel it...I do not know...but have to admit that I had to smile after 4 days of stress worrying about her as she stomped her feet and started telling me off. Haven't heard her talking for days so it was refreshing in an odd way. May dust her again if needed but did pick up the ivermectin as my hail mary. I saw a video online where a guy uses 1cc per hen on the back of the neck where the body joins for worming and taking care of mites and lice. Don't know if anyone has used that method but like I said it is my last ditch effort. I syringed her more electrolytes before giving her a break. I should say me needing a break.
