UPDATE: Parakeet eggs didn't make it. =(

Thanks! Wow I never knew that parakeets had to have sooo many varied foods in their diet; I knew that they should eat seed, some fruits, and sometimes veggies; but i never knew they needed THAT much!

We gave Carla a little bit or scrambled eggs a week ago, but other than that all she really eats is mixed seeds(the white colored millet, the darker brown millet, and other types of seeds...)

I better ask mom if we can go to the pet store soon! And I'm glad I saved up my $50 from Christmas; now I am planning on getting some pellets and other food for breeding parakeets.

Oh, and does it cost a lot for a small bag of pellets at a pet shop like PetSmart, etc...?

Thanks again for all the advice! We want mama Carla and her soon to hatch babies to get as much healthy food as possible!

Here's another update:

Nothing new. still 4 eggs under Carla. But I suspect that hatch day is getting closer and closer!

That's all for now!
Thanks for reading!

Nothing new, again.

Eggs are fine and Carla is still incubating them; they can take up to 28+ days to hatch. Hopefully they hatch this weekend!

Although I doubt that they will; they will probably hatch next week or so. I can't wait!
That's all for now; keep checking for updates!

Still nothing much. Carla is sitting on the 4 remaining eggs all the time. I'm hoping that they will hatch this weekend while we are there to see them!

I'm bringing my camera for pics, so keep a look out for this post on Sunday night/Monday morning.

Yeah! And maybe it would help to look up info about Parakeets, and show your parents that they are great birds!

But if you want to breed them, keep in mind that it is a big responsibility many people think that breeding them is no big deal-just provide them with food, water, a mate, and that's all. But no, it's not.

You need to provide both parents with nutritious foods, such as PLENTY of veggies, fruits, and high-calcium foods. You NEED to know how long it takes for the eggs to hatch, what to expect when they hatch, what to do in an emergency, how old parent parakeets must be to mate, and MUCH more! I didn't know much myself, I admit, when Carla laid her eggs; but trust me, I took a lot of time looking up stuff right away; such as all the basics of breeding/egg laying, etc. Lots of work!

You must also consider: will you have an extra cage for babies when they grow up, if you need to separate them for a reason? Do you have an avian vet's phone number at hand in case of problems? do you have money to pay for Parakeet's food, materials, etc. And for breeding/raising keets, will you be able to provide healthy food for mommy to feed her chicks? and do you have the time, sometimes all day, to care for mommy and chicks?
Please consider all of this before breeding Parakeets; it's a big responsibility!!!

If you don't want them bred, just keep male/female separated, or get only females or only males.

Other than that, Parakeets are FUN and very friendly birds!(if handled right)
