Update: Returned Chicks to Mom

Mom smashed a chick and seemed to be kicking them. Perhaps she was stressed after incubating them for someone long. I separated them for 5 days and let them gain some strength. Reunited them and the Momma is finally at peace and seems a lot more gentle now. Aren't they cute?!

She probably was not kicking them. She was probably trying to teach them how to scratch. Part of them learning how to scratch is to stay in front of mom, and not behind her. And yes, they occasionally do step on a chick.
