Ok, I'm new to the chicken world but grew up around a Grandmother who knew more about raising chickens than most anyone you imagine. She raised thousands over the span of her 93 years on this earth and her recent passing got me to thinking. Now ,I've always had an interest but little opportunity to enjoy raising my own chickens so I decided to jump in head first and enjoy the ride. After tons of reading and research I wanted to test several methods of hatching eggs so I invested in an R-Com 3 egg, Little Giant still air and fabricated my own Miss Prissy style homemade incubator. It's day 4 and I'll post my results so far:

R-Com: Set it and forget it (almost). It's as easy as plugging it in, filling it with water and pressing a button. everything regulates via a computer chip and it's worked great so far. 3 RIR eggs

LG Still Air: Terrific. Humidity and Temp are steady as a rock and the automatic turner is working great. 15 RIR and suprise breed mix from Florida Chick

Miss Prissy Homemade bater: Temp and Humidity are a bit of a truggle to maintain but it was a blast to make and I've enjoyed the learning process. 2 RIR

If I can figure out how to post pics on here i'll show you the setup. For now i'll leave it at this buti plan on candling this weekend and will post the results. Wish me luck:D

i just hatched out 11 chicks today using miss prissy's plans on the homemade incubator, except i used a few of my ideas too! what a great thread she has on her incubator! i had 13 eggs in it and 2 werent fertile and the other hatched out wonderfully, and the whole time i had NO problem with the temperature nor humidity!!

Thanks for the positive energy guys it's much appreciated:)

Ok, Candling results on Day 8 were really good:

Miss prissy model: Both eggs have great embryo development. Very active and defined. This bator has been a great source of entertainment and I would recommend it to anyone. As a matter of fact I saw one exactly like it on youtube.

R-Com 3 Egg: All three are developing perfectly. This bator is almost too simple. Sort of takes the challenge out of it.

LG Still air: 14 Eggs. 11 are showing development and 3 arent. Temps and humidity are perfect. I like this one pretty well. I'm, candling again on day 14 and I'll post the results with a few pics to boot.

Wish me luck:)

Hmmm, I was wondering the same thing because to get "scientific" results all eggs should come from the same source ie local or shipped, because those factors affect your hatch. Still fun to watch regardless

Should come from the same source, equal number in each, and performed more than once to be a good scientific experiment.

I hate to inform you - but you're gonna have to hatch again...

I know that is a hard one to swallow - but we will all be there for you:D
