From everything that I've (obsessively) read, this little one still has a chance, right? He's 'chewing' and occasionally chirping... I put coconut oil on the membrane, was definitely sticking...
Background - successfully (much to my shock!) hatched 6 little ones in these awful incubators... 4 showed no movement went candled (day 22), so I slowly peaked in and they were gone. Shrink wrapped (I think?) and some malpositioned. This one had been internally pipped since last night, and was sounding weaker and weaker. So based on what I saw in the other 4, I decided to go in carefully... And I think I'm glad I did... He really didn't look like he'd be able to move... so now I just wait and pray?

He has a lot of veins, so you can't do anything until they absorb. It's a waiting game at this point. You can moisten the membrane if it starts drying out with coconut oil, but try not to get it on his beak. Don't beat yourself up if he doesn't survive, nature takes its course sometimes. Best of luck to you and chicky. :)

Oh, I didn't see that you already moistened the membrane, lol. Seems like you've done your research!!

I really have tried to!! (My hubby and 5 kids are probably feeling neglected these last couple of days! 🤣🤣). To be honest, I'm glad I eggtopsied the other 4 before going in to help this guy. Because I wasn't sure how I'd be with handling the death - but I was totally okay! So if this little one passes during the night, I'll know I tried my best.

Just wait until the little fluffy guys are running around. Then they'll feel more neglected, lol! That's a great way of thinking about it. If you wouldn't have done anything, he would have had no chance. It's possible he may have something wrong that prevented him from hatching, such as a leg problem that can be seen sometimes in the chicks who can't hatch on their own. Usually they'll do just fine with some splints and such. But look at me, counting your chicks before they hatch- lol :lau

There are lots running around already ;) (we've got six 7 week olds too, and 8 adults and 11 eggs under a broody 😉)

He made it through the night, but I thought he was looking lethargic this morning, and no longer chewing/yawning, so I started peeling away his VERY stuck membrane, and he weakly fought the rest of his way out... But it was too early 💔💔 there was quite a lot of blood, and some unabsorbed yolk. The yolk was detached though and ruptured? So there was no point in putting him back into the shell bottom... He's still fighting at this point (peeping away at his siblings, from within his hospital bin), but I can't imagine him surviving/thriving without having absorbed all of his yolk??

He's gone 😢 ugh this is torture - feeling like maybe he could've made it if I'd left him alone... He fought SO hard too, I really thought he might make it - he fluffed up and wobbled around... I almost wonder if he overheated because he couldn't get away from the lamp... I guess we'll never know... Trying to focus on the positives - 7 beautiful babies. A *much* higher success rate than I ever expected from this awful bators.... Just a bummer to end on a sad note, but I guess that kind of makes sense - the healthy hatched first..

Aww i’m so sorry. If the yolk sac ruptured, that’s what did it. Sounded like there was nothing you could do at that point, it had already burst. But 7 beautiful babies... yay!!
