*UPDATE* with pics. Does one gender tend to develop faster?

Our speckled sussex roos developed tails way before the little pullets. The poor little pullets have no tail for a long time!

arent they!!! they do it fast and poor babies...they just throw them around...here I sit and baby them...so did you learn anything??? I sexed mine according to the Discovery channel video...we will see in a few wks...keep you posted.

I keep spreading the wings and looking at my 1 1/2wk old chicks...

I need to "mark" them with something so that I can see if I can sex via wings like they did...that is so much easier than vent sexing!!!!

I was trying to eat my salad from Wendy's and watching the Dirty Job's youtube video. When they got to the squeezing part I had to stop the video and finish my salad before I could watch the rest of the video. Gwoss!

Gwoss indeed.

My babies are old enough now that by looking at just their combs, it's very obvious who's who. It was nice this time around to have the other chicks of the same breed to compare to. That made it tons easier.

I've also been wondering about the different feathering rates in relation to gender so I've been watching this post. I'm sorry to butt in, but does anyone have a picture of this "landing strip" by chance? At what age would it be most visible?
Thanks!

Please note that feather-sexing works only with certain breeds (sorry, I don't know which ones).

Also, don't be disappointed if you cannot do the vent sexing --- it takes the professionals years of apprenticeship to learn how to do it.
