Updated- Adult Pekin duck - problem walking

The vet isn't really an option for us; financially, distance and availability. I guess at this point I'll give her another few days and see what it looks like with doing what I'm doing. And I'll end up having to put her down. I hate that so much! I worked so hard to get her well.

What I don't understand though is that small scab just showed up 4-5 days ago and the swelling was already there. The scab came off when I put iodine on it this morning and there was nothing under it but perfect skin. The scab was super thin too, not like bumblefoot scabs.

Can you get injectable penicillin from the feed store it would be worth giving her some to see if it would help or over counter meds from feed store. Like OxyTetracycline as last resort before putting her down. I don't understand the scab either but if it's in and around her joint I don't think you opening it up is going to help at all. She needs some antibiotics for sure.

I can try to get some tomorrow from Tractor Supply. I don't give up on things easily and her and I have finally built a bond somewhat. Lol! If I can get to the feedstore, what exactly am I looking for and can I still buy it over the counter after that law change? I thought there was a law change recently but maybe I'm dreaming. Also, what dosage and where do I inject? Into the bump or breast? I've done injections on people, dogs and cats but never a bird.

Not sure if you can buy over the counter antibiotics any longer but there are way around it look up fish meds for one. If you could get the penicillin I'd say in the bump for injection.

Sorry my computer died on me and I am just now getting back on line.

What did you find?

I haven't been by tractor. I ended up coming down with the flu and have been in bed. I haven't done anything with her. I have tricide neo but not sure if it would even work since the skin isn't open. Other than that, I have nothing here and I'm fairly certain I wouldn't be able to get ahold of penicillin.

I'm going to see if tractor sells this over the counter still, but is this the Penn G I should be looking for? If so, what dosage do I inject her "bump" with?

It says it's Penn G procaine. Procaine is bad for birds, right? I can't find another penicillin injectable without it. Am I missing it? Ugh!
