No, no, no. If there's one thing BYC'ers have learned, it's that we never have enough room for our little feathered friends! Give him beers, Doritos, whatever it takes to fuel him onward and upward!!!

I know, right? I think he intends to section off one end of it for a separate breeding pen eventually, but heck, for all I know he'll be starting construction of the High-Rolling Gobblers Casino and Hotel next.

There are 13 straight-run poults, and we plan on eating most of the toms and some of the hens.

I'm inclined to agree. Heh. He doesn't drink, but his favorite treat is SweeTarts...maybe I should get a reward system in place!

We're repurposing some dog kennel fencing for the main "body" of the structure--it will be reinforced with chicken-wire. The "roof" is mostly a frame to support chicken-wire over the top to keep them in, though there will be sheet-metal roofing over the back part, to block the sun, and maybe sheet-metal along part of the back of the structure, for the same reason. We're more concerned about the birds being too hot than too cold, so our plans are ventilation-heavy.

I welcome ALL suggestions while we're still in the early stages! Well, I welcome suggestions. I can't speak for the husband.

Holly smoke! That is huge!

If the turkeys don't work out I bet you could put 3 horses in that space!

Good luck, I am on my 3rd month of building my chicken taj mahal. DH says I will have to sell eggs for 10 years to recoup my money from this one!

Our nosy, pushy, "My father used to be county sheriff a hundred years ago and I still think that somehow means I run everybody's business" neighbor came over and asked if we were "gonna put a hundred chickens in there."

Oh, no, sir. Just a few turkeys.

Meanwhile the mad peeping from the chicken-yard next door threatens to betray the presence of only *slightly* fewer than "a hundred chickens." Hee.

Chicken count is currently right around...um, 80 or so.

But 20-25 of those will be in the freezer by Christmas, so that's not so bad...right?

OMG this thread about killed me! Cathedral is right. Get that man some sweet tarts! How is it going any new pictures?

I'm pretty sure once this whole chicken endeavor gets going I'm going to have it pretty bad. Already my coop looks too small. Sigh. I can always add on.

Wanted to say I love standard poos, especially kept in a sport clip. We've got German "Shedders" (Shepherds) and I swear the next dog is a nice buff performance standard poodle in any color other than white. (TN red clay sucks.) I should have painted our walls red clay red.

I'm considering orpingtons if I can't find anyone with exhibition quality standard rocks for sale. They're nifty.

I was only considering three or four bourbon red turkeys, I think my turkey housing is going to be much more humble digs. I'll put pictures of the turkey cathedral in there so they have something to dream about.
