Updated pics of my EE babies...... There's a shocker in here! *PIC HEAVY*

I agree William. It just takes so long to breed them and get everything perfect if you ask me.

Hezz - you're not excited at all?! I have chickens laying but I can't wait till the babies do! LOL What are ya gonna breed for?

Don't get me wrong, I do get somewhat excited for the "babies" to start laying, but after having 57 chickens at one point, all hens, the "novelty" kind of wears off.

I was very excited when I got these new babies, I got 8 total, 2 died within 2 days, and I was left with what I "thought" were 4 pullets and 2 cockerels, but after a while I realized that I had 3 of each. This is my first time having roosters and I am planning on keeping 2 of them to breed with my EE hens. I have 2 barred EE hens that I would love to breed them with. I also have a VERY broody Golden Comet, so hopefully she'll hatch some of the eggs out for me. This will be my first attempt at breeding, so we'll see how it goes, but I still have a few months to wait for them to start laying.

I'm actually excited to see what color eggs they are going to lay though, and VERY excited to start my journey on breeding the EE's.

I bet!! That's what I love about raising chickens, seeing them as tiny little puffballs then getting all their feathers, when the roosters try out crowing, when the hens start laying and then starting the cycle over again! It amazes me in a sort of way. I love those golden comets - well I have red stars but I swear every single one I've ever owned has been friendly. And they lay so many eggs!

Hezz, have you sexed Nugget as a pullet or a roo? You've got some adorable red EE's in this post

@ mysunwolf,

Nugget is definitely a roo. Him and Mr. Biggs are the sweetest little guys ever! As far as Alfredo (aka: a$$hole) goes, he's NOT a nice little roo! He's the one that will be leaving soon. I have been trying to tame him, but it doesn't seem to be working, so he'll probably end up on someone's plate.

@ Nike,

Golden Comet, Red Star, Cinnamon Queen, Gold Star, etc..... all the same IMO, they're all some type of red sex links. I have 6 of them. They are great egg layers, and super sweet to boot!

Remember.. there are too many nice roos in need of a home to put up with a mean one. If Alfredo doesn't straighten up, send him to Camp Kenmore. Especially since you seem to have a second roo without the personality problem.

I actually have 2 others that are total sweethearts. Mr. Biggs & Nugget are both roos, so yeah, Alfredo definitely has to go. I have a woman who is interested in him. I'm going to give her a call tomorrow and see if she wants to pick him up soon. She didn't want to take him with the rest of the girls I sold her because they are all laying already, and he's still small. But if she wants him, she's going to have to take him by Monday. Maybe the girls will beat some sense into him....LOL!

Just a quick update here.....

I have managed to pretty much tame Alfredo, but now I'm having trouble with Nugget!

I know for a fact that Mr. Biggs is head honcho, but Nugget is now attacking Alfredo, AND the girls! He seems to have a big attitude for being the smallest roo! So now I have an awfully hard decision to make as to who to get rid of....... I'm now thinking of keeping "Fredo" and getting rid of Nugget.

Also, I was woken up this morning to one of them trying to crow. It sounded like a dying sheep or something! Hahaha! It was hilarious!

I'm not sure which one it is though because when I tried to "sneak" down to the coop and peek in, the dogs started carrying on and I haven't heard anything since letting them out in the run.

Mine did too! I only had one guy who could do a decent crow, the others were sort of "erk-er-eeehhhhh"

So far, many of my smallest roos have been the most insecure, bossiest, worst crowers, and always eager to show how tough they are by beating up everyone else. Try to keep them all at least until 6 months, their personalities come out more and more as they get older, and young roosters often go through teen trouble in the interim.
