Do you know how hard it is convincing a 69 y/o Mom and 65 y/o Dad that I needed an Incubator?
Well after losing a new Mille Fleur hatchling this morning

I finally convinced Mom and Dad to let me get an Incubator. I told Mom if she wanted her Sultan hen's and Japanese Bantam's eggs to survive to hatch I needed to get an incubator because Bar-b can't keep more than 12 eggs under her and still take care of the little ones that have already hatched.

It's only a Little Giant 9200, but I'll manage it, I read the pamphlet 3 times already, and know I will have to turn them 3 times a day.
Yeehaw! I'm fine tuning the temp now and when it's ready, in go the eggs.

I'm also gonna ask Mallary if I can get 4-6 more Mille Fleur eggs off her to help hatch. I know the ones she gave me last month were fertile and some are still hatching. Now, I'll feel better getting those eggs in an incubator til time for them to hatch so I don't have another 1 freeze to death, hatching in the night.

Uh oh, you did it now!

I started with a hovabator, then 2, then a homemade cabinet bator, now a Sportsman 1502.

I hatched over 900 chicks last year, & I started hatching earlier this year.

Just be careful, Watching chicks hatch can be hazardous to your willpower!

Any extra over 2 hens (and IF (that's a big IF) I can get away with having a roo), I hatch will go to Mallary, she's trying to rebuild her flock. This past winter she lost some Mille Fleur hen's because no one down here was ready for such cold weather.
As far as the Sultans and Sultan X Japanese Bantam crosses we hatch I'll be re-homing them as pairs. I will have to search my area for people who would like to have special chicken pets. My Mom won't let them go to anyone that doesn't understand how special and much attention Sultans need. That's just the way she is, protective and picky...
I'm going to have fun with this new chicken math tho.

Got the temp to level out at 99.5 and let it stay overnight. Put the water in the reservoir, and let the temp get back up to 99.5. Just put the eggs in, but I have to turn them 3 times a day til they hatch. I'm unsure when the eggs Mallary gave me are due to hatch. Had 1 hatch yesterday morning in the nest but it didn't make it.
As long as they are fertile still I'll have new chickies again. Some I can't check for fertility til Saturday, they are Melody and Goldies eggs.
Wish me Luck

I can hear peeping from 1 of the Mille Fleur eggs, I can't see any pipping.

Don't know how the hatching process is worded, but I'm patiently waiting

I have 16 eggs in my bator that will hatch at different dates.

Should I open 1 of the vent hole?

Or will that affect the other eggs?
