I just picked these seramas up in DE, and one was supposed to be a frizzled serama (that's what the person told the girl when she got them), but the frizzle turned out to actually be a silkied serama! I was still happy, she's VERY cute

There are 2 mottled (1 pullet, 1 cockerel)
1 reddish (he's actually more orange than anything!) roo, who's crow is just hilarious! I almost died when I heard it

and 1 more cockerel that I have no clue what color he is...
2 tan pullets

All of these birds were living in the house and are very friendly. I couldn't get them off my arm when I went to put them down!

I was wondering if I could get some insight on actual colors, and which of the roo's I should keep. I have a favorite already, but I want the better quality roo

so I'm asking for help!

Roo #1: This guy is pet quality IMO, but he is also molting, so he's pretty rough right now. His stance isn't all that great...

Roo #2: I LOVE this guy! He's just stunning in "chicken"
tongue2.gif
But I don't know what his color is. He has a great stance, when he "poses" his tail touches his head! But then again, maybe you don't actually want that?

Roo #3: This is "Sunny" (he was very easy to name for obvious reasons!).He is the oldest roo in the bunch, and also has a wonderful stance. He does have long tail feathers according to his previous owner, but lost them when he started to molt.

Pullet #1: Silkied serama. She is just too much! Very sweet

Pullet #2: Mottled girl... Checkers as per my Mom
smile.png
She has a better stance than what the picture shows...

Pullet #3: This girl is nice. She has a great pose.

I'd love opinions on all these birds. I don't know much about the breed, as I just got into it, so please send info my way!

Lucky thing, you!!! You hit the jackpot!!! I wish I could get that lucky to find some gorgeous Seramas here locally or in close driving distance!

They are gorgeous!

Well, it wasn't real close... Trip should have only taken 1.5 hours each way... Going down it took us 3.5 hours!!!

At least coming home traffic wasn't so bad

Roo #1 I agree whole heartedly with pet quality.
Roo #2He looks young, 5 months maybe. Is he SCNA banded? I so, what color is the band and what is the number? From the picture, His back seems too long, his wings aren't vertical, his breast is too small. He seems pet quality, but he is young, he might improve. It would help if there was a picture of him posing.
Roo #3 Hard to tell, he isn't posing. His back seems nice...... Does he have a wry tail?
Pullet #1 Pet quality, but still it would help if there was a picture of her posing.
Pullet #2 Need picture of her posing
Pullet #3 Possibly good, need better picture

Sorry if I was harsh. I judged with my limited experience using what pictures were there. I hope you enjoy seramas, the sweetest chickens ever! Check out my page for what a serama is supposed to look like.

Roo #1- Looks like he may have a short back, but the comb is way too huge and irregular. Cant tell you much more from the picture, but he looks like he was really wet and nasty at some point. I would give him a bath. My seramas molt a few feathers at a time here and there.
He may perk up after getting clean, and then you can post more pics!

Roo#2-Nice tail. Ok comb. No folds in waddles is good. Slim chest. Looks a pinch long in the back, and I dont like the curly hackles. Looks like he would be vertical. Its hard to tell about chest and wing length when they are sitting on your hand, it throws off their balance.

Roo #3-Good wing position and length. Looks like no back. Would be better when sickles grow back, you can see if the tail is up against the back of his head, or out behind him. It does look a little wry in the first pic. Ok chest, could be a lot more round, like an apple.

Silkied pullet-Cant tell much, but is silkied!

I only know of one other breeder with frizzles other than who I have sold to (BriarPatchFarms and Bev219....Pandora maybe....)

Checkers the pullet-Has that weird comb like the first roo it seems. Cant tell you much else. Looks slim in the chest? I love the color!

Last pullet- Looks to be the best, you want a 'V' in the back and not a 'U', but it may look better if she were standing. Her tail and wings look like she would be possible vertical for a hen. Looks a bit slim in the chest too. I would breed her to a vertical roo with NO back. You should breed her to Sunny. He could use her stiff upright tail (maybe) and she could use his lack of back.

If you take more pics, put them on the ground and get them to strut with treats and getting them to be tame and confident---or showing them a new chicken to get them worked up a bit. I'm going to post some great pics of Napoleon. I got him to dragon pose by letting him and Sammy check each other out. (They are arch-enemy roo brothers in neighboring chicken tractors
smile.png
Best of luck! Let me know if you put up new pics!

Roo 2 is young, just starting to get his crower workin'
tongue.png
He is banded - it's green but I'll have to look at the number on it. The girl said she did get them from a breeder and that she's a member of the SCNA. Sunny's tail is straight, and I can't wait for his sickle? feathers to grow back. He struts around like a 20 pound roo - so funny! I'm going to get more pics when I get home today. Hopefully better pics this time

Oops... Checkers is banded. It reads: SCNA 07, B 6 01 What does that mean? I'm assuming she was an '07 hatch?, "B" class, but the rest of it???? the band is green.

Here are some more pictures from today:

SCNA: Serama Council of North America. B is not the size of the chicken, but the size of the leg band. 07 is the year, green was that years color, this year it is white. 601 is the chicken's number, each number is registered to a breeder. See here: http://scnaonline.org/leg_bands.php
Your
chickens seems much better now with these pictures. I love your pretty boy, he may do well at a show. Your Sunny is breeding quality. I am afraid your hens are pet quality. Sunnys girl is the best.
